December 2021 Update

 Since September 2021 COVGOG has been able to convene for its regular Tuesday evening sessions. Our committee and the church that hosts us have worked closely to ensure that COVID security measures are in place. This includes the wearing of face coverings which although not universally welcomed is recognised as being sensible in the circumstances. 

There has been a focus on the two activities we love doing best; running model trains and talking about them. This has seen several running sessions on Tuesdays, a show and tell evening and workshop nights. We have also held monthly Saturday running sessions. Although a handful of members have not felt the time right to revisit the club attendance has been generally very good. On the Saturdays we have even been able to welcome back some of our country members who travel many miles to be with us. 

Not surprisingly a fair amount of building has been undertaken during the Pandemic. Locos ranging in size from a small Ford railcar (as used on the Kent and East Sussex Railway) to Gresley Pacifics have graced our test track in recent months. In addition, we have seen some new rolling stock being built from plastic and brass kits. An example has been one of Slaters four-wheel Great Western carriages where the pre-printed sides have been used to good effect. 

Unfortunately, for the second year running the club’s Christmas supper had to be cancelled. Much thought and effort had been given to how this might safely go ahead but the increase in COVID cases in December led to a re-think. 

Thanks must go to the COVGOG committee for its hard work in getting back together. The club and its activities are a real lifeline to many during these difficult times. 

So now we look forward to Kettering in March 2022. Fingers crossed.
